If you are single, the thought of trying an online dating service may have crossed your mind at one time or another. You may have seen commercials on TV from dating services like eHarmony or Match.com, or maybe you did a quick Google search to see what kind of dating services were out there. If you didn't join, you may have been cautious because you didn't know if it would be worth your time or money. Maybe you thought it might be embarrassing if your peers found out that you were using an online dating service. You may have just wondered if they actually worked or if they were just a scam.
I was reviewing eHarmony's website today and found this statistic on their page:
"Today, an average of 542 eHarmony members marry every day in the United States as a result of being matched on the site."
WOW, now that is a lot of people! About 6 years ago, when I first started promoting eHarmony's website, they mentioned that an average of 90 members were married every day. To be honest, I think that having 90 members a day getting married is quite the statistic in itself, let alone 542 members in today's environment. eHarmony actually claims to be responsible for nearly 5% of all marriages in the U.S., according to a 2009 study! With over 20 million registered members from all 50 U.S. states and more than 200 countries worldwide, I can see why.
My point here is that online dating is becoming very popular, and it is now widely acceptable in today's world. I have friends and family that are currently using online dating services and have been successful. Dating services like eHarmony, Perfect Match, Match.com, and many others have proven that online dating actually does work, and you shouldn't be embarrassed joining up with one of these sites. If you are single and are looking to meet someone new, whether it be for a casual date, fling, or long-term relationship, you should definitely give online dating a try.
When you are ready, you will probably notice that there are hundreds of online dating services out there, so make sure you find the one that fits what you are looking for. When considering which site to join, you should know that most sites today offer a minimum of the following 3 features:
1. Free Profile - Most dating services will allow you to create a free profile. Beware of sites that do not let you create a free profile. Do some research on the site and make sure you are not getting ripped off.
2. Upload Photos - To accompany your profile, you should also be able to post photos free and also view photos of members. Some dating sites do require you to be a paid-member to view all pictures from members though, but this is common.
3. Quick Search - At the least, you should be able to search by age, zip code, gender, and interest. Most dating services provide this capability for free to help you find exactly what you are looking for.
