* NEVER send money
At some point, you will most likely meet women who will tell you sob stories about how life is so hard in the Philippines, how their mother is sick, or how they're not able to pay for Internet connection. These sob stories have been used time and again to rip men off of their dollars.
While it's easy to think it could never happen to you because you're smart, the fact is that many men have fallen victim, even the smart ones. So, trust me, if a Filipino woman starts talking to you about how poor she is (or some other sob story), she's merely soliciting sympathy to win over your cash.
* Check if she's really single
The Philippine National Statistics Office actually has a service where you can request online a Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR). This proves that she has no record of being married in the Philippines. If she's been married before, it will appear in the records. However, requesting a CENOMAR is something you should request only if there's someone you want to commit to. It costs money to fill out a request.
* Ask for a post office address
There are several reasons why you should ask for a postal address if you find yourself wanting to commit to the Filipino woman you're talking to.
For one thing, applications for US spouse or fianc�e visa (and maybe visa application in other countries) are more easily approved if there's a postmarked, long-term correspondence between lovers. For another thing, a postal address gives you the opportunity to hire someone to do a background check on her if you have any doubts about the kind of woman that she is.
