A friend of mine messaged a few days back telling me about this 'new' website about being gay and promised it to be very different. 'How different can it be to pick up men', said I to myself? Out of the few queer dating websites we have, the format is pretty simple. You log in - your message the guy - he responds - you meet! How different was this one going to be? But then I logged in to be taken by surprise, and how!
Desiboys.in is everything we were longing for in these 'gay dating websites' but could not find. From the minute you log in one can see how 'cool' it is and how it's only gets better. In my first post at desiboys, I'm going to give us 5 reasons why EVERYONE should join this website.
1- We can finally TALK again - Did we miss the forums or not? Yes, we did! Did we have a place where we could discuss issues related to being queer? No, we did not! Now we do. The first thing I noticed on the site was how we can post content. Blogs and discussion forums are a great way to let people know about how being gay is affecting us and our immediate friends and family. It is this space that will help us create a support system for ourselves as a community, something that could go a long way in being a helpful hand.
2 - Videos, videos, videos - Any particular 'gay' song/video/clip that you liked? Time to share it! You perhaps can't put it on Facebook! But here, you can! It's OUR OWN SPACE! (And no, am not talking about porn! Sigh, men!)
3 - Twitter weds Facebook weds linked-in - What's great about desiboys is how effortlessly it is letting us do whatever we do on all these 3 sites. And that too in a 'queer' way! You want to post stuff - be our guest. Addicted to twitter - keep writing all the worlds gay stuff here and we are only happy to read! Build a network beyond the usual 'fuck buddies'. Talk to people about the things that actually help you in everyday life!
4 - Events - A ready reckoner of all queer events around us! You want to know what is going on? Just log in! How very convenient!
5 - And last (and most definitely the most important) talk to men! One thing that no one can take away from you is the want to socialize and interact. And therefore - there they are. The most beautiful people around you (gay, duh!). Go talk to them, make new friends, expand your friends circle, hang out. Go out! And tell the world if you manage to find that certain someone through desiboys!! LOL
